Invited Review: Passione Ristorante Italiano, Sri Petaling

Thanks to invite from Adeline & Mei Yien, who manage the marketing for Passione Ristorante Italiano, the one and only Italian restaurant in Sri Petaling, I get to savour a delicious meal in an area which is mostly known for chinese food. This restaurant is under Butbo Group, which has 2 other more widely known sisters bakery/restaurant: Le Pont Boulangerie and Xenri.

This Italian restaurant is situated in corner shoplot just next to The Store, Sri Petaling.

Stepping inside the restaurant, we are greeted by beautiful stairway leading to the upper floor dining area.

On the right end, there is their wood fired oven, imported all the way from Italy.

Going up to the upper floor dining area. To the right is a private dining area which has 2 long dining tables, available for private party’s booking.

Closer look of the private dining area, for big group of party.

On the group floor, there is a cold cut fridge, ie bresaola, porcetta, parma ham, speck, salami etc.

Open kitchen on the upper floor.

Antipasti menu

mains and pizza menu

salad, soup and pasta menu

dessert menu

non-alcohol drinks menu. They do serve many types of alcohol like Prosecco (an Italian white wine), cocktails, red wine. Their bar is one of the most dazzling i have seen. (Picture of the bar is available in their website)

Ambassasor Set meal

Chef Specials.

Ice lemon tea

We are first served with crusty bread with 2 dippings: left is olive paste, the right is balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Nice warm crusty bread, wish there is more of it 🙂

Next is parmigiana di Melanzane (RM 25). Layers of sliced eggplant cooked in a small pot till golden brown, topped with tomato sauce, mozarella, basil and grana padano cheese. Yummy! The mozarella cheese taste meaty (as they put lots of it), and pair well with the eggplant.

Next is a dish which looks and taste like beef, but it is not. Stracetti Di Pluma Iberco Al Balsamico (RM 79), Iberico pork sous vide-d and grilled, the meat is very tender. Yummy, and pair well with the slightly bitter arugula leave.

House made pasta with fresh mussels, shrimp, baby cuttlefish and squid served with chili & garlic oil (RM 35) The pasta texture is good, and they are some cute small yummy squid in it.

Stinco Di Maiale Arrosto (RM68), pork knuckle which has been seared, baked for 3 hours, vacuum sealed, and sous vide, very tender as well. It doesn’t looks big in above picture, but the portion is huge, 4 of us did not managed to finish it.

Chef Stefano preparing pizza for us.

Wood fire oven, it takes only about 4 minutes for the pizza to be cooked, as the wood fire oven can be heated to about 400 Celcius.

Chef Stefano putting the finishing touch to the pizza.

Margharita pizza (RM26) yum yum yum, the pizza is baked thin crust, pair with the saltiness from generous mozarella. This is the most basic pizza, but it is simple done right, yum! A good meatless option as well for those who prefer non-meat option.

Lastly, sweet ending, Tiramisu (RM24), the alcohol is light, to cater for children as well. Wish there is more of this, yum!

Before we left, we are allowed into their kitchen to see how Chitarra Spaghetti (originates from Abruzzo in Italy) are prepared. A sheet of pasta is placed on top of the wooden pasta maker with thin strands of metal strand on top, then the sheet of pasta is pressed with the rolling pin from the top, and out comes strands of pasta at the bottom.

Overall, the meal is yummy, and we throughly enjoy the food and the impecabble service and warm hospitality of chef Stefano. Go try!
