Best eats in PJ Petaling Jaya
1. Universal Bakehouse
21, Jalan SS 20/11, Damansara Kim, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Scone is quite nice, wouldn’t say is spectacular but worth a go
Nice sourdough with seasalt and butter, just RM 9
Below is revisit, loves having simple toasted sourdough with salted butter. Can skip the quiche as it is just so so, hojicha is nice but very small glass. Can’t really remember the pizza, not bad and not spectacular I guess
2. Wild Yeast bakery,
15, Jalan SS 22/11, Damansara Jaya, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Very near to universal bakehouse. For the sourdough with butter set, I prefer the universal bakehouse as the sea salt & butter ratio and way of serving is just right. Wild Yeast’s butter i feel is less and it is difficult to sprinkle sea salt over the butter on my own without being too heavy handed. So, universal bakehouse win hands down.
Their croissant sandwich is unexpectedly nice though, it is very crispy and buttery
Sea salt is served separately, is hard to sprinkle just the right amount of salt on bread
3. Khong Kee Yong Tau Foo, Taman Paramount
My favourite porridge, yummy comfort food
4. Kompassion Thai Restaurant
Overall, must order is the cold Thai milk tea which is not too sweet, the eggplant which is greenish is surprisingly nice. Tom Yam I would rate is average in term of taste(detect some sweetness which is not my preference) but great in terms of freshness of the prawn, the prawn has natural bounciness from its freshness and not bounciness from chemical processed(I would try clear tomyam if I revisit).
Fried chicken wing is not bad, it is easy to eat, good as a filler dish.
Fish dish has tender boneless smelt like fish, it is very coconuty sauce, overall ok but not something I will reorder.
Midin is obligatory vege, portion wise is quite small, prefer the eggplant vege dish more.
Overall, consider a nice thai meal, it doesn’t come cheap though, RM300 for 4 pax
5. Leen’s TTDI serving Mediterranean food
Overall, the tastiest we order from below is the Kunafa ice cream, very fragrant pistachio ice cream and not too sweet, a must order
Fattoush salad is nice & tasty, hummus is tasty enough with unique smokiness, mushroom pied(like pizza) is not bad. The grilled chicken I find is so so and can be skipped, it is not juicy like some review I read in Insta, it has some bbq flavour which hubs like but not me
6. Aunty Ling’s Nyonya Cendol
Cendol is not bad, but my top 3 go-to for cendol are still other places(taman desa road side truck, PJ old town food court and maybe Four Season food court’s), and this cendol is among the more expensive one, around RM6
Nasi lemak is ok ok
7. PJ Old Town foodcourt
The cendol is really nice, with very fine ice, and cost only RM4. This and Taman Desa cendol truck are my top 2 for nice cendol
Below is Bak Kut Teh in PJ old town food court. Taste not bad, but it is served barely hot which is normally the case when it is bowl-based BKT
8. Kona bakehouse
PJ has many nice bakery and sourdough bread, whereas I can hardly find any good one in OUG/Sri Petaling area. The toast with butter in Kona is one of my most fav, the bread is not hard, not sure what breast it is, yumm
Their famed Taro scone is quite nice as well, although I think it will b more exceptional if it is made savoury, although it is not that sweet now, would have preferred a more savoury salted taste
Not so good eats below:
A. Fellini PJ
Don’t know why many raves about this restaurant, and they have many good reviews in Google. Sure, the interior is nice with old Italian charm, but the food is nothing much special. Risotto is homey nice, pasta is not bad. You can forgo the tiramisu, but the Panna cotta is quite nice(I opted to be without their cheap looking ice cream). Food here are not cheap, can try but not a place I would go back for.
