Went to the MIFB today, which is the 10th Malaysia International Food & Beverage Trade Fair in Putra World Trade Center(PWTC), today is the last day which is the only day it is open to public, it was opened only to trade visitors on Thursday & Friday, but little did i know trade visitor meaning people with business cards, your field of work is irrelevant. The advantage of entering such fair as a trade visitors is you can go in for free, public visitors have to pay RM10 entrance fee. Above is a cake decoration session held in AB Mauri booth. AB Mauri has a factory in Balakong producing yeast and baking ingredients.
Spraying yellow paint onto the chicken.
More powder colors onto the cake
More coloring
Drawing the eyes
Finished product
Top right is Ruffles i got from Carrefour, the others are from Thailand, tried the Lay’s onion and cheese, not bad, although quite oily. I really want to rant about getting fat now, have been feeling tired, not enough rest, and eating quite a bit more, and exercising only once a week although like to do it twice… grrr… fat away from me… -_-“
and not forgetting the porky meal i just had in South Jinjang-Restaurant Soon Heong, pork ribs bak kut teh, fatty pork stew, pork liver/kidney, stew chicken wings etc… and i had dried style noodle with pork this morning, and tried all the random food stuff in MFIB, then a McDonald’s Fillet ‘O Fish lunch value meal(RM5.95++) for lunch, FATS, don’t you find it kinda annoying when girls complains that they are fat when they aren’t? but i think i am fat ass…
* all today’s food photos are taken with Olympus Fe-20, nope i didn’t buy a new camera, just using my mum’s camera, a 8MP instead of my regular 4MP Pentax Option S4*
** more MFIB photos in next post

Service Tax in Restaurants

Some restaurants charge service tax of 5%, whereas others 10%. Ever wonder how service tax works. According to The Star newspaper dated July 11, 2008, only restaurants earning more the 3 million per year(previously RM500,000 annum)ย can charge service tax, and this took effect July 1 last year.

However, seems like not all restaurants observe this, i doubt some small restaurants which i visited make more than 3 million a year ๐Ÿ˜› but they do charge service tax. You could lodge complain at
1. cd [at] customs.gov.my or
2. kastam [at] customs.gov.my
According to article in Malaysia Royal Custom website, restaurants in hotel, nightclubs, dance halls, cabarets, health centre, massage palours, public houses and beer houses can charge service tax with no pre-requisite of annual earning 3 millions.
For full list of restaurant authorised to charge service tax, refer to Lowyat.net or Promotions and Sales in Malaysia.
One things which confuses things for me is this Service Tax Act specify 5% service tax is at stake, but at times restaurant charge 10% service tax.

Last Sunday, went to this food exhibition –ย Epicure Malaysia 2008 in Sime Darby Convention Centre in Bukit Kiara. There are food sampling(wine, cheese, chocolate etc) and workshops(self grooming, culinary class etc)
workshops on ground floor, while exhibition hall is on second floor.

Pasta served by Chef Marco of Marco’s Pizza (branch in Bangsar Village), the sauce is watery but taste all rite.
Chef Marco in person
Sampling of biscuit made from different flours.
Tomato and Basil Pasta sauce.
Illy’s Coffee, taste very strong.
Pita bread, nuff said.
Cheese sampler plate, like the gouda.
Chocolate and baklava by Lavand, there are chocolate buttons at the front for sampling.
SummerTime juices(apricot, apple, tomato…) from Australia.
Nagomi chicken shabu shabu, the soup taste really good, gotta try it someday, has branch in Hartamas shopping centre.
GNC sampler
Malaysian local products.
Yummy smoothie
The exhibition hall is not big, lot of wine sampling but didn’t take them. We finished browsing all the stalls in one hour, looking at the leaflet, decide to go to a workshop – Continental cuisine by Chef Oliver Lopez (from Genting’s Olive restaurant). Dish for the day is mushroom risotto. Three type of mushrooms used: Shitake, Trumpet and Chanterelle. The bottle hold by chef is truffle oil, more than RM100 for this bottle.
Rice used to cook Risotto: Arborio rice.
The bottle with green top is champagne. This dish is an expensive dish, with truffle oil, champagne…
At the end of the demo, we all get one small serving of risotto served in a cup, yummy…
