Ipoh1-SlimRiver

2 Days 1 Night trip from KL->Ipoh->KL. Fook Seng in Slim River, it is about a little over an hour drive from KL on the way to Ipoh.

Ipoh2-SlimRiver

They don’t have live bull frog on that day, so we settle for steamed river prawn and claypot garoupa fish(sek3 ban1) below. Above one prawn is about RM24 (RM60-80/kg)

Ipoh3-SlimRiver

Claypot fish, around RM17. Food taste quite nice, but the price is not any cheaper than KL.

Ipoh4-hotel

FairPark Hotel, a cheap budget stay, 2 single bed for only RM99 nett(breakfast included), free Astro and WIFI in room.

Ipoh5

Fair Park Hotel lobby, clean and simple

Ipoh6-hotel

Our room, gotta ask for a better room next time, this room opens up to a wall and dozens of air-con, so we can’t open the window for fresh air :\

Ipoh7-hotel

clean toilet

Ipoh8-coffee

First stop: Sin Yoon Loong & Sun Yuan Foong coffee shop, similar name shop just next to each other. I am not a coffee lover, but have sips of both ice coffee just for tasting anyway. Sin Yoon Loong(to the left) is slightly too sweet and less bitter coffee taste, whereas Sun Yuan Foong(to the right) has just the right sweetness and more bitter coffee taste. From blogsphere, seems like Sin Yoon Loong(to the left) is the more famous one

Ipoh9-rasa-lain

Kedai Makanan Rasa Lain, famous for their claypot tanghoon(glass noodle), big fish ball etc

Ipoh10-fishball

RM1 each fish ball, bouncy and fresh

Ipoh11-crab-tanghoon

Claypot Crab, RM55(RM65/kg), enough for 2 person, very nice, yummm~

Ipoh12-crab-tanghoon

The crab is really fresh and meaty, drench in soup peppered with szechuan peppercorn

Ipoh13

Fresh fruit shaved ice in Dessert street(tong2 shui2 gai1), Ipoh is my favourite, can’t find such in KL, stall 27 this time unlike previous time is stall 22. They have few stalls selling the same mix fruits ice, all pretty identical.

Ipoh14

only RM4.50, yummy with mango, jackfruit, dragonfruit, pear, lychee, raisin, grapes, biji selasih etc

Ipoh15

Delicious

Ipoh16-hotel-breakfast

Fair Park Hotel serving simple breakfast of nasi lemak and fried kuey tiaw, their nasi lemak is quite nice

Ipoh17-fohsan

Foh San

Ipoh18

so grand

Ipoh19

Dim Sum, just standard, still missing the yummy Tuck Kee dim sum in Kepong

Ipoh20

fluffy Char Siew Pau

Ipoh23

2 famous chicken hor fun stall side by side: Thean Chun(to the left, open for business about 9 am) and Kong Heng which open for business earlier, around 8:30am

Ipoh24

Chicken hor fun stall in Kong Heng

Ipoh25

~RM4, hor fun(rice noodle) is very smooth and almost like chee cheong fun(as the noodle is quite broad), but i find the soup is not served hot enough.

Ipoh26

Popiah stall in Kong Heng

Ipoh27

Old Grandma making the popiah

Ipoh28

very nice, i asked for little spicy, and it pack a definite hint of chili, very nice, ~RM2

Ipoh29

Thean Chun hor fun, touted the best hor fun in the area, gotta try it and see

Ipoh30

Chicken hor fun ~RM4, very nice, piping hot, definitely one of the must eat in Ipoh :P. The noodle is from Jelapang, taste quite similar to those of Old Town coffee chain, but this is very good

Ipoh31

Ching Han Guan Biscuit, their signature pastries include meat floss lotus biscuit, walnut candy etc. Be sure to book one day ahead so that you can collect the next day morning around 9am when they open. Else, you have to wait till 1pm for their fresh batch of pastry to come out of the oven.

Ipoh32

Making their lotus paste meat floss pastry

Ipoh33

Meat Floss Lotus Paste Biscuit(RM15.60) and meat floss lotus paste biscuit with salted egg cost RM21

Ipoh34

Don’t find it as nice as before, wish they put in more lotus paste instead of me tasting more of the pastry skin with little lotus paste

Ipoh35

Lai Kee soy bean it is since funny mountain soya bean shop is closed on Tuesdays. Can’t beat funny mountain ones.

I’ve always go for dim sum whenever I dropby in Ipoh (en route to Penang). But now that you mentioned about Chicken Hor Fun, I’ve got to try it!
