I have heard of Sumika since i think 5 years ago where my ex-colleague raved about their awesome japanese grill. Today is finally the day to try out how good there are. The place which can seat only around 50 pax is packed full on a Saturday evening. Do note calling in at least a day before for reservation is a must here, business hour is Tuesday – Sunday 6:30pm till midnight.

This japanese guy is the only person doing all the grilling, and all the items are grilled perfectly, except maybe the squid which we find is slightly overdone.

Sumika_6

free appetiser: beef tongue in ponzu sauce

Sumika_7

edamame, RM8

Sumika_8

Oyakodon, chicken egg with rice, RM20, a really nice, big and filling dish, yum!, the egg is done perfectly with runny yolk

Sumika_9

sweet potato with butter, RM10, i really like this, the sweet potato is yummily drenched in butter “sauce”, don’t mind having this again and again

Sumika_10

gingko, RM3, beef tongue RM8 and boneless beef rib RM12

Sumika_11

crunchy chicken soft bone RM5 and addictive chicken skin RM4 at bottom

Sumika_12

quail egg, RM4

Sumika_13

eringi mushroom on the left taste better than shiitake, each RM5

Sumika_14

squid is slightly overdone, RM6

Sumika_15

yummy looking grilled eggplant, with its skin removed, prettily top with bonito flakes, really like the ginger condiment on the side which pack a punch, RM12, don’t like the distinct charcoal taste on the eggplant but everything else are delicious, the eggplant is cooked perfectly to the right softness which still able to be pick up using chopstick

Sumika_16

Pork slice with mentai, RM10, big mentai within thin pork slice, yum!

Sumika_17

yam in pork slice with seaweed, RM10 interestingly crunchy yam texture, totally unlike our local taro

Sumika_18

pudding, the caramel is slightly burnt which mask the sweetness of sugar, we still polish it off clean though.

Overall, i think this is as authentic japanese yakitori as i can get in kuala lumpur with all grilled items made perfectly by its only japanese chef. Do go and try when craving for meat hits.

I have also submit a review of this place to FindIt.com.my
