4 of us go on a 3 days makan trip from KL -> Penang -> Ipoh -> KL. We left KL on Sunday 3pm and arrived back in KL at 3pm Tuesdays, so technically it is a 48 hours trip 🙂 KL->Penang is about 350km, roughly 4.5 hours drive.
Wanted to go to Funny Mountain, but when we reach there on Sunday 5pmish, it was either closed or already finished selling 🙁 miss having their super nice tau fu far and soya bean drink.
100 photos ahead…

We wanted to try Ah Leng Char Koay Teow in Khoon Hiang Cafe near Jalan Dato Keramat/Jalan Dunlop intersection, but it was closed on a Monday?!

Joez coconut jelly made without any additives, but the jelly is form when the jelly is baked and later cooled, and thus jelly is formed within the coconut, this jelly can be found in KL Sentral as well.

Coconut Jelly

Price list, RM4 each

Padang brown famous po piah with prawn and crab meat for only RM2.50 each

One side of this food court is filled with chinese food stalls

The other side are malay food stalls

Paya Terubong’s Te Chang You Tiao Wang, this place is near to Air Itam Assam Laksa place

menu

putting mayo into the fried chinese you tiao

From top: tuna, chicken floss and sausage. I find them not tasty, just for the “novelty” of eating really long chinese fried crullers.

We reach Ipoh on Monday night around 8pm in time for dinner in Onn Kee, as the more famous Lou Wong is closed on a Monday night, looks like quite a well restaurant we wanted to dine in are closed on Mondays or could it be some chinese festival, it is quite strange for Ipoh Dessert street to be closed on Monday as well.

Chicken feet

Fish ball and pork balls

Tuesday morning dim sum in Yoke Fook Moon in Ipoh’s dim sum street (Foh San, Ming Court and Yoke Fook Moon all in the same street)

Yummy Cheong Fun

JJ Cakes & Swissrolls in Ipoh

Rows of fridge filled with all different flavors of swissrolls

even durian flavor

Price list

Tried one of their best seller: “Four Heavenly Kings” ie carrot, spinach etc filled with nutty cream cheese fillings. I find their cream cheese fillings have quite a bit of butter in it which makes it taste a bit like buttercream, would prefer the fillings to be less buttery. But if you chill the swissrolls well, the fillings will be firmer and feel less buttery

Sin Yoon Loong coffeshop for ipoh coffee and toast, above is cheong fun with mushroom sauce, just ok

Steamed Creme Caramel, cold and nice in Sin Yoon Loong coffee shop, Ipoh
All in all, we spent RM290 each (all inclusive, hotel, toll, food) for a food-packed makan trip.
