Metal_Box_8

macchiato coffee, RM7.90 quite good

Metal_Box_9

A-Maize-Ing Fritters, corn fritters, RM17.90, it look like pancake and not like a good corn fritter

Metal_Box_10

flip it over, i sure didn’t look good from this side as well, sure enough, it is far from amazing, very doughy and flour taste, really terrible

Metal_Box_11

Overnight oat is really good and a healthy choice, RM13.90

Metal_Box_12

a very filling salmon dish, thick cut salmon with tempura avocado, sure to fill u up, at a reasonable RM27.90

Metal_Box_13

Metal Box signature baked egg, done perfectly, RM18.90 the egg is cooked just right, and with good blend of vegetable and meat within, better than Red Beanbag version which i find is too meaty and of too much sausage

Metal_Box_14

Refreshing roma tomato salad with fresh mozzarella, RM14.90

Metal_Box_15

Salted caramel crumble, RM14.90, the apple is soaked in salted caramel which i find is too too sweet and the texture is odd, almost like pickled fruit which is very firm and hard-jellied-like. And that is not crumble, i don’t mind the presentation if it taste good, but i felt the crumble-cookie has an artificially strong vanilla/almond flavor and doesn’t taste good at all. The only saving grace for this dish is the cookie crumble under the vanilla ice cream, for some reason, cookie crumb with vanilla ice cream is really good.

Overall, do visit this cafe for their signature baked egg which is perfectly executed.

Porcupine_Place1

Hungarian Lamb Shank Goulash, RM30, specials of the day, not in menu, don’t like this dish as it is too asian spice taste, was expecting more western taste, similar to taste of sup kambing/ox-tail soup

The lamb pieces are underneath, top with some spatzle-like pasta

Porcupine_Place2

My porky shroom pasta dish, RM24, with roasted cauliflower, house-made pork bacon bits, mushroom etc, this dish is too rich and very filling for me, good for sharing though, much preferring the Cow Says “Cheeze” pappardelle dish that i had in my previous visit

Porcupine_Place3

One of their signature dish: Hungry Belly, RM22, served with house made pate choux as burger bun, the choux burger bun is crispy and savoury nice. The sausage patty round is made in house as well. Yum~

Porcupine_Place4

This is nice! Golden Brioche, RM18, the buttery tender brioche bread pieces coated with cereal and pan fried, there is some citrusy thing going on with the bread i think, very nice. The citrus curd is really yummy, wish there is more of it. Must order!

Porcupine_Place5

Not so fond of this banana praline parfait, RM15, certain part of it felt slightly icy. And the nut praline is too hard and stick together like hard candy, it might be easier to eat if it is chopped to smaller bits.

Porcupine_Place6

tagliatelle made in house, i much preferred their house made parpadelle though, their Cow Says “Cheeze” pappardelle is really good

Porcupine_Place7

Side orders: home made sausage rounds, RM6 and potato rosti, RM4

Porcupine_Place8

Side order: house-made smoked salmon, RM9

Cold Dish menu

hakka steamed dim sum menu

YingKerLou4

really like this dish, century egg is creamy with the sliced ginger, RM6

YingKerLou5

The one on the left-Taipu Bamboo shoot dumpling with minced pork RM9.90 is nice, Ho Po chive dumpling RM8.90 to the right is just so so

YingKerLou6

Stewed pork knuckle, RM39, enoguht for 3 person, i find it slightly too sweet, and some commented it is not vinegarish sour enough

YingKerLou7

Steamed carrot ball, RM9.90 sticky and not nice

YingKerLou9

Ginger sweet potato soup, RM6.00, too sweet, i used to like this so much when there were even yam cubes inside and when it is more bentong-ginger-taste than now normal-ginger-taste

YingKerLou10

Overall, the visit this time is quite disappointing, only the preserved century egg and steamed Taipu dumpling are nice. But do go for their noodle dishes lunch deals especially their hakka pan mee is very delicious!
