Just done my driving license in JPJ in Pertama Kompleks, wake up wee hour of 6am, to be the first in line queing in front of JPJ, took a bus there. I had my license renewed bout 4 months back for period which i don’t remember, 1 or 2 years, maximum can renew if for 5 years, in a post office, and they gave me a receipt, on the receipt it is stated that it must be kept with my old driving license(thought it was a norm that post office won’t give you a newly laminated card, so there you go, i kept the license with the receipt…) Until one “fateful” day i bought a new wallet, and i “tink” i threw away the receipt… so now have to go JPJ… urghh, i hate dealing with road tax/insurance/license etc etc governmental matters mostly. And it cost me freaking RM150 to renew it for 5 years(RM30 for 1 years)… and i thought i renew it for a period already, but my new license stated the starting day from today till 2014… careless me, i don’t have actual proof that i actually renew it already and he told me system said my license expired on December last year… $%$#@ i need to be more careful to avoid lossing $$ like these(keep receipts!)… RM150!
reach JPJ at 6:45am, and there are opening 7:45am, had to take half day leave.

Food blogger’s camera choice

In continuation to my previous post Camera survey among food bloggers, i have finally narrowed down my camera selection to 3 choices, after considering few criteria including price. Since the attractiveness of the photo will in part due to skill of the photographer, and it is so expensive to buy recent releases which will prob be outdated in few years, so now am just looking to upgrade photos in this blog. Btw, i bought the pentax 5 years ago for almost RM2000, -_-“, that time 4MP is above average, now mine just look so obsoleted, the screen is 1.5 inch?!

1. Olympus Stylus 830(US)/Mju 830(known locally), sample photo: A Southern Grace
2. Olympus Stylus 840(US)/Mju 840
3. Canon SD750(US)/Ixus 75, sample photo: Confession of a city Eater
(these 3 choices are now retailing at RM799, should be able to get it fro RM750)
+ 2 option(suggested by cookengnr, A Kuchingite residing in the US)
4. Canon SD1000IS/Ixus 70, sample photo: Jom Makan
5. Canon SD1100IS/Ixus 80, sample photo: A Taste of Home Cooking, Foodbuddy.net,
I have seen the Ixus 80, the button is kinda ugly…, so will probably left it out, anyway, click Digital Photography review for a side-by-side comparison of choices listed above.
Pro and Cons of the camera
– All are ultra compact, so that is a good thing.
– All are either 7MP or 8MP, sound decent 😛
– Olympus has bigger sensor size at 1/2.3″
– ISO all up to 1600
– Olympus 5X zoom, Canon 3X zoom(not much importance to me)
– Olympus macro range 3cm, Canon mostly 5cm
– Canon has very high minimum shutter speed of 15sec, Olympus 4sec/.5sec. (night scene?)
– Storage type: Canon SD/SDHC/MMC, Olympus xD picture card (any difference?)
– LCD: all are decent 2.5″ above, Ixus is at 3″ while Olympus 840 2.7″
– Olympus 830 is all weathered(slight waterproof!)
– weight: 165-175g
So here my camera research, basically i already cancel off 4th and 5th… hahaha… which one i going to get and when, still not fully decided yet. It is between Olympus 830 and Ixus 75 now. Should i sucumb to the reliable brand Canon, or should i get Olympus which has slight smaller LCD?

Thank you for all who responded to my mail on what camera they are using for their FOOD blog… haha, i am considering to get a new camera albeit not in a rush to get it. Based on 163 who responded. 163! i had gone through the list roughly and below are few camera which i consider to buy, firstly i filtered out food blogs of photos which i like, from there, crossing out all the camera which is more than 500g, seriously even 300g is quite heavy, my current Optio weight only 98g.

In no particular order:
1. Phnomenon: food in Cambodia, using Olympus C-740UZ(weight 295g, ISO up to 400)
2. A Southern Grace, using Olympus Stylus 830(weight 125g, ISO up to1600)
3. Farmgirl Fare, using Canon Powershot A630(weight 235g, ISO up to 800)
4. Flour Arrangement, using Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K(weight 372g, ISO up to 5400)
5. Sounding My Barbaric Gulp, using Canon PowerShot A620(weight 285g, ISO up to 400)
A lot of the local Malaysia food blog do take good photos too, but almost all of these use DSLR which is too heavy for me to carry around.
Some advices given by food bloggers: get camera with higher ISO(to take good food photos for reason unknown to me), tripod, cardboard to reflect light, don’t use flash(didn’t know that, no wonder my photo looks so harsh and washed out)
Many of them recommend Panasonic Lumix which is more expensive, and more than 50% are using Canon. But i felt like i am leaning more towards Olympus Stylus 830, which is small and the photos do look quite DSLR, excuse me a newbie in photography, but the photo in A Southern Grace does looks like it has depth, not a flat picture.
Do leave your comments here, quite interesting to discuss camera choices among food bloggers… haha

Grape Red hair colour

So i did highlighted my hair red, i wanted red and not knowing what red is the best, but also kinda want the reddest, the purest of all reds.
Did this in Kepong Metroprima APT for RM100, it is supposed to be RM80(stylist), RM100(???) and RM120(professional) depending the years of experience of person working on your head. Stylist has 2 years experience while professional has more than 5 years experience. I had to pay RM20 extra making it RM100 as the redder colours is not included in the Wella Koleston, and their suggested CID, also a Germany brand i suppose.
Wanted firey red, which is like your color pencil kinda red, but out of stock, and the hair stylist suggested grape red, so their it goes my hair. Grape red actually look bright purplish pink on the book, ewww, i afraid i look like some “lala” or worst punk… but trusted this stylist with well maintained kinda nicely coloured hair.
So my hair doesn’t look that red, it actually looks brown… ummm… anyway, i woke up today emoing  and missing my black hair, what have i done to myself, good things i only highlighted it, thus they are still blacks.
I wonder why everybody ask me to straighten/rebond my hair, seriously, i know my hair is thick, unruly etc but at the moment, i will still not consider rebonding and fully colour hair, as it is probably damaging to the scalp, and who knows what side effects of those harsh chemical… anyway, highlighting is not so bad, as the hair colour doesn’t comes in contact with the scalp, (see above) the colours didn’t start at the scalp *consoling myself*
Once this grows out, i will probably try the reddest of all, just one or two section, not too much. Actually also considered blue too, but it will need bleaching *wonder bleach touch the scalp or not*, just 1 or 2 small sections if it comes to it.
